Automating the VB Build Process

It's fairly easy to make a project from the command line in VB:

Vb6 /make project.vbp

But what if I want to set my revision number by hand at this time? Is there a slicker way to do this than to hack the RevisionVer= line in the .vbp file?

I ask here because I know Joel is a fan of automated builds and of VB.

Hi Jeff

Take a look at FinalBuilder, our build automation tool.

http://www.atozedsoftware.com

It supports VB6, Source Safe 6, most of the common installer packages and much more.

You should also check out Visual Build by Kinook Software.  I've had a lot of success with this tool.

Vincent Parrett's FinalBuilder rocks.

I just discovered it about a week ago and I got rid of all our wickedly confusing batch scripts which used to run the build.  It took me 5 minutes to set up our entire build process (including building the installation).  That probably is because he supports both our IDE (VB) and our Installer (InnoSetup).

Anyway, I can't give it enough props.  If you want a super easy build tool, use FinalBuilder.
