Does anyone know a good software library for doing this?

Is java.net.URLConnection too weak?  You can create this object using URL.openConnection().  And no doubt there's a simple urllib for Jython.

I get the impression you're asking a more complex question than I think. ;-)

Be more specific.

Do you want code to send HTTP uploads from a Java applet client, or do you want to code accept HTTP uploads in a Java server (servlet/JSP) ?

If you want to upload using a servlet, the de facto standard is the com.oreilly.servlet package, found here:

If you're talking about uploading files into a web page that's powered by Java, you can tree the free SmartUpload component at http://www.jspsmart.com .    We've been using it for a while and it's worked out pretty well.

If you are using servlets this is easy.

The file content ( and any binary data attached to a request) are available from the "getInputStream()" function off the Servlet Request.

This is all wrapped up nicely in the com.oreilly.servlet package mentioned above.
