An indexer in the .NET framework is a syntactical technique of referencing indexed values in a class.  For example, when you code:

TheClass["myvalue"]

TheClass references an instance of some class and the indexer (square brackets in C#, parentheses in VB.NET) allows you to retrieve that indexed value.  They are _all over the place_ as in:

MyDataSet.Tables["MyTable"].Rows[0].Columns["MyField"]
