.NET on Windows 98

I am missing something here for my Windows 98 computer.

I can download the .NET redistributable and install it.
I can then download Sharp develop and install it
Sharp develop runs
Sharp develop compiles my source file (hello world)
my new executable runs.

I thought you couldn't develop .NET executables on a Windows 98 computer.

You just can't run Visual Studio.NET on 98. You can run the command line compilers anywhere the framework runs.

Are you thinking of Windows 95? Can't install the .NET Framework on that, but it looks like that OS is fading away... http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html
