user control messing up submit button?

I'm facing a weird problem. I have a ASPX page with a table. The top row has a user control (let's say page header). The mid cells have a series of text boxes for input and then I have a button. When I click the button, I have a "clicked" method associated with it.

But the problem is - when I add this user control to the page, the button just stops working. no postback at all. I remove the user control - and everything works.

What the hell am I missing? what is in that user control that's mangling my main submit? (I've written the user control myself - I can't figure out what mischief it's doing. Or maybe I'm missing something here... experts, please help!)

I have seen VS just drop event handlers for no apparent reason, but your problem sounds more client-side since you're not even getting a postback.

It's possible your are experiencing this problem:

In case anyone else runs into this - try this:

aspnet_regiis -c

This should reinstall your client scripts for asp.net.
