Caching user controls

I've got a tree control (RBTreeView) that takes *ages* to build using data I sourced from a database. I think it must be doing a lot of string concatenation whilst building the JavaScript.

Anyway, is there a way I can cache the control so I don't have to rebuild it every time the page refreshes, but still be able to manipulate it during the page form_load method?

the controls are cached via the viewstate in ASP .NET, you do not have to rebind the data source for a page reload. check for the Page.IsPostBack property to do that.
