Subcontractor rate

If you were an independent consultant, and you were hired by a bigger consulting firm because of capacity problems, what would be a reasonable percentage of the hourly rate to aim for?

Ask the folks on realrates.com; they talk about these things all the time.

The big firm would not be hiring you unless they desperately needed you in order to fulfill their bigger contract, from which they no doubt make a fortune.

So charge about 120 percent of the rate the big company charges their client.

(that was my intuition -- I was going to say 110%)

Yes, if they need you badly, feel free to overcharge.

Even as much as 125% (worked for me)
