# of SQL licenses?

If we go the SQL route do we need as many SQL licenses as we have FogBugz users?  Or is FogBugz the sole user?

Thanks.

FogBUGZ is the sole user.

Actually this is not correct.... check this link http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/multiplexing.asp

"Multiplexing is the use of hardware and/or software to reduce the number of devices that directly access or use the software on a particular server. An example of multiplexing is a server application that calls the Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) component of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server on one server, which in turn pulls data from a SQL Server database on another server. The client computer has a direct connection to the server running MTS, but it also has an indirect connection to SQL Server because it is ultimately retrieving and using the SQL Server data through MTS."

Your interpretation of this is not correct.

The correct interpretation of this (in relation to Fogbugz) would be:

For each computer that you have RUNNING IIS you need a license for SQL server. If IIS is on the same machine as the sql server you need only one liscense.

The specific case that paragraph is addressing is if you had multiple IIS servers routing COM+ through a MTS server. One might presume that since the MTS server is the only machine directly accessing the SQL box that it would be the only license needed. That is why the clarification was required.

Isn't IIS itself a multiplexing agent?  If you have 30 users connected to one web server which connects to one SQL Server don't you need 30 end user licenses?  That's the reason the per processor licenses are popular.
