Firefox Javascript Error

Did you know that FogBugz 0.92 (on your trial server) throws this Javascript error:

Error: event is not defined
Source File: http://try.fogbugz.com/default.asp?pg=pgEditBug&ixBug=17&command=reactivate
Line: 974

This isn't a big deal, but it fills the Firefox Javascipt console with errors which is a bit of a pain while I'm debugging another Javascript page.

I use FireFox 0.9.2 and could not repro this on the trial.

Please provide a few steps to repro this.

It appears you simply clicked Reactivate and got this error, but  I got no error when I did that.

I'm guessing the page was not fully downloaded, e.g. you clicked before it finished downloading (or perhaps clicked Stop in your brower?) or the page just failed to download.

Are you able to repro it?

It's a little hard to repro, but it seems to happen when I click on the "My Filters" drop down menu. Sometimes if I click on that menu it doesn't drop the menu down but actually loads the filters page.

You're no longer describing the above bug, you appear to be describing something entirely different.

If you click Filter, you get the filter page, so I'm guessing you clicked maybe one or two pixels too far to the right and hit Filter instead of My Filters.

I have an error to add: I just clicked "New case" from the grid list view.

Error: [Exception... "'Permission denied to get property XULElement.selectedIndex' when calling method: [nsIAutoCompletePopup::selectedIndex]"  nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)"  location: "JS frame :: http://XXXourserver/FogBUGZ/default.asp?command=new&pg=pgEditBug :: clearTitle :: line 1847"  data: no]

The initial javascript exception is generated here on every keypress in the comment field when a case get's reactivated.

Error: event is not defined
Source File: http://XXXourserver/FogBUGZ/default.asp?pg=pgEditBug&ixBug=705&command=reactivate
Line: 1780

My guess is it has to do with the input box resizing, which works in IE, but not in Firefox. Also note how Mozilla's line number for the error is not reliable.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. The details were helpful. We're working on a fix for that.

I seem to be having the same as well as a similiar problem. I get the same :

Error: [Exception... "'Permission denied to get property XULElement.selectedIndex' when calling method: [nsIAutoCompletePopup::selectedIndex]"  nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)"  location: "JS frame :: http://localhost:777/FogBUGZ/default.asp?pg=pgSearch&searchFor=sign+off&bAlsoSearchClosedBugs=&search=2&bNoneFound=1 :: setFocusToWindow :: line 62"  data: no]
Source File: http://localhost:777/FogBUGZ/default.asp?pg=pgSearch&searchFor=sign+off&bAlsoSearchClosedBugs=&search=2&bNoneFound=1
Line: 62

But I am also receiving hundreds of:

Error: event is not defined
Source File: http://localhost:777/FogBUGZ/default.asp?command=new&pg=pgEditBug
Line: 912

The offending line is

if (document.layers) { document.captureEvents(Event.KEYPRESS); }

I hope this helps to track down a fix since I am in the same position of trying to debug javascript while FogBUGZ is up.

We have this problem as well, though our users reported it in the context of resovling a bug as a duplicate.  Under IE, when you select "Resolved (Duplicate)" you are then presented with a textbox labeles "Duplicate of".  Firefox 0.9.3 does not display this box.  But the javascript console sure fills up with

Error: event is not defined

Source File: http://fogbugz/default.php?pg=pgEditBug&ixBug=2854&command=resolve
Line: 983

Had the same problem, onClick would work but not validate, and would give me the error message below:

Error: [Exception... "'Permission denied to get property XULElement.selectedIndex' when calling method: [nsIAutoCompletePopup::selectedIndex]"  nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)"  location: "JS frame :: <unknown filename> :: onclick :: line 0"  data: no]

so, I ended up using:
onclick="Javascript: document.forms['subs_email'].email.value='';

With the 'Javascript: ' declarator being the key entry.
