MySQL questions...

First of all, let me start by complementing Fogcreek on creating a wonderful bug-tracking tool.  I would like to use MySQL as the database backend for fogbugz, but I've run into issue that I'm hoping someone may have already solved.

MySQL(4.0.18) and MyODBC(3.51) were already installed on my server, so I simply followed all of the instructions at http://www.fogcreek.com/FogBUGZ/KB/dbsetup/UseMySQL.html.  I switched over the new DSN and it looked like everything was working properly. I was able to create a new user and project without a hitch.

When I went to create a new bug or view bug detail, I got an error message (I don't have it handy at the moment).  I called up the support line and the helpful technician said that he thought it was caused by the MySQL database using UTF8 encoding instead of UCS2 as described in step 10 in the MySQL directions.

This sounded straightforward, so I started to look for this type of switch.  From my research on the MySQL site, however, it appears that UTF8 and UCS2 are recent addtions to the 4.1.x alpha versions of the database (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Charset-Unicode.html).  I'm a little confused, it seems like other people (including Fogcreek) have been able to setup MySQL with 4.0.x versions.  Am I overlooking something, or could the error be caused by something else?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Can you post the error message?  That will help us diagnose the problem.

You'll have to contact support for help with that.  It's not clear to me immediately what the problem is.
