full text search engine: suggestions?

I am currently using FreeFind on my web site as a full text search engine. Unfortunately they do not seem to support Unicode encoding (my web site is in German) and their support seems to be on a collective sabbatical. Therefore I am looking for a substitute.

I need:

in-/exclude list for indexing/searching
possibility to use an ad free custom template
output should be title (linked to article) and description (taken from the meta tags)
simple sorting by date
simple statitistics (a log file would do)

What are you using for full text search on your site? Any suggestions?

P.S.: If all else fails I would be willing to install a suitable script (PHP or perl), given it's easily customizable.

I'm using KSearch from http://www.kscripts.com/

Parts of Ksearch are derived from another free search script, perlfect, available from: http://www.perlfect.com/freescripts/

Thanks for all the suggestions! Much to my surprise I ended up writing my own little search script. Excuse: girl friend away for the weekend, raining outside.

Freefind finally responded and offered me a full refund. Generous.
