Multiple content types

Here's my primary use case:
- I have a bunch of word documents and PPT files that I would like to publish as a blog on the net.

If I want to use CityDesk for this, it appears that I have to copy/past text from my documents, or import every file into the CD database. I'd rather just have CD use my file system and treat the documents as articles.

I realize this is not possible with the current edition.

Anyone else with this use case? I suspect this is a major use case for corporations, as a lot of content already exists in word documents.

I don't mind importing my content into CityDesk if I want CityDesk to manage it.  It's nice and neat to have everything in one file.

It is a major use case in corporations, and there are two main solutions :

1. Import the files to the CMS and publish them as usual.
2. Alongside the CMS run a server-side tool that generates nice-looking indexes and allows you to maintain metadata.

Andromeda, though it's for audio files, is a good example of the latter approach.

Either way you may need a search engine and some way of viewing the files in the browser, such as Quickview Plus.
