Importing existing files

I'm trying out the CityDesk starter edition and moving files over from my existing website.  The problem is that when i use the Import options, the files come in as (I guess) HTML files that are not considered articles.  When I edit them I only get the raw editor, not the CityDesk editor that lets you set teaser/author/etc.  These imported files also do not show up in list generated in the standard foreach loops.

I assume CityDesk can do this, but how?

The short answer is that, right now, CityDesk won't do exactly what you want.  Import works the same in all versions.  It's a little disappointing but you can still get it done with a little brute force and you'll probably be glad you did. Here are some recent recent discussions:

There are many more; check out "import" in the search box.

CopyBoy can help:

thanks TK! I think that you and Larkware may have just won Joel and company a sale... you'll have to email him for your commission... [grin]

John,

I've used copyboy to do what you are trying and it works great. It's the best way to go about importing existing html files and converting them to articles.

I've used CopyBoy for this as well.  If it wasn't for this feature in CopyBoy, the conversion effort for my existing site would be too great and I would not be using CityDesk right now.

Hmmm, maybe I should actually get back to work on CopyBoy again :)

Actually, I'm waiting to see what's in the next CD - and more importantly to CB, to see what got left out.

Anyhow, glad it's helping.
