publishing blog archives

Hey there,

I'm currently publishing my blog archives using a pretty simplistic "list all headlines & dates for articles" format:

http://www.vinod.com/blog/NavLinks/Archive.html

this format is fine for a smallish number of articles but... as my blog grows...

I was wondering if anyone had any cityscript they'd be willing to share that generates the more common "chunked by date" archive format -- e.g.

[sep 29 - oct 1], [oct2 - oct 8] etc.

or.. for that matter any other clever solutions for making archives navigable....

I found these two references in the citydesk forum w/ some answers:

http://discuss.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=779&ixReplies=7

http://discuss.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=3378&ixReplies=5

unfortunately, none of the discussed solutions are "automatic" at author time....

perhaps a feature request for a citydesk "widget"?

This may not be what you want but I use John C's template:

to produce this (an "upside down" blog):

It's not magic.  You do a script for each chunk of your archives - but it only takes about a minute for a new chunk.

If you just wanted an "Current" and an "Archive" you could use for current:

{$foreach x in (and (folder "Myfolder") (after today-90)) SortDescendBy .filedDate $}

and the archives would use (before .... ) instead of after

Each time you ad an article, those greater than 90 days (or whatever you pick) would be automatically rolled over to the archives.

If you want actual date groupings, you will need an article for each specifying the date range you want.  I use that on my site, but only need to specify ranges of a year.

hope this helps.....
