RSS feed won't work

have been at it all day trying to get this RSS feed thing to validate. I keep getting this error message:

Sorry, your RSS source did not validate. Here's the error message, it may be cryptic. "Can't call the script because the name "init" hasn't been defined."

They are not sorry, they don't give a damn <G> Anyway I put some .txt files up on the URL below (sorry couldn't get the XML code to render correctly in an html file, i thought that is what the <pre> tag was for.  Can you tell I'm new at this? The file called rssCD.txt is how I coded it tn the rss.xml file in City Desk the RSS.txt is how city Desk outputs the file.  If any of you want to take a quick look I would be obliged.

The url of the rss file is

but I can't get it to come up, which i would guess is the problem.  (also if your an avid Rush Limbaugh listener don't read anything on the site)

Thanks

Yes I followed the KB article to the letter. Cand comed over it for about four hours to check for mispellings and other mistakes both boneheaded and vexing.

And what is the publish name with copy boy?  is that some code?

Copy boy:

I'm not sure what i'm supposed to be doing with copy boy.  but I checked the publish names and eliminated the spaces.  I still get the same error when running aginst the validator.

Has anyone else got this to work? Is there anyplace I can get the meaning of the "the name "init" hasn't been defined."  error message?  I tried google and it dosn't come up.

Yes, I have got it working. The reason I mentioned the publishname was because I was not able to download the xml file.

When you erase an article (or file) Citydesk still keeps the default publishname reserved. The next file with the same name will get a -2 postfix when publishing.

Copyboy can show you the real publish name (and you can edit it)

OK did some sluthing abd here is what I found.  I tried to validate Jole on Software's rss file and his gets the same error.  the difference is that when you go to the file on my site it dosen't come up so I'm guessing there might be a permissions issue.

Does anyone have a guess as to what permissions need to be on the file? Or maybe someone has a guess as to why the file won't display....

Visited the page, this is the entire output:

<HTML></HTML>

looks like you're doing something wrong, and I don't think it has to do with permissions.

I wonder if my rss.xml validates?

I copied the slashdot.org RSS format.

Took me some time to figure out. When I open the file in my browser, it is an empty html file. However, when saved to disk it looks ok.

I think your provider sends out a content type text/html for .txt as well as .xml

In that case: complain or get a real host... ;-)

Yes I think your right, I have come to the conclusion that my hosting service Earthlink, is the bad guy.  I am resurching other options now and frankly I'm finding out that I'm getting hosed.
