Unfortunately this is a "feature" of Microsoft's DHTMLEdit control that we use.  It wants its HTML in a specific format and will "correct" it to be whatever it pleases.

It definitely has its problems as a control, but it saved a lot of development time.  Fortunately in the next version of CD we'll be using the MSHTML control and we'll try to make it behave.
