suggestion {$ .publishurl $} variable

this would be a handy variable when creating pages where i want to have a tag. this allows me to link to binaries and other non publishable files which won't exist in the Articles directory.

Doesnt work?

Nope because i want the "http://mysite.com/" part to be the value of the .publishurl variable.

Wouldn't it be best to use

Link

Then it will work no matter which server you move it to?
You don't need the http://servername part if you do the above... it will work ok (this assumes you are always publishing to the root directory though, which may not be the case)

CityDesk doesn't (necessarily) know what to put in front of abslink. For example, on my site, CityDesk is only used to maintain one single folder on the site (my web log), and I maintain the rest by hand.

You should do what was suggested, and prepend the front end of the URL yourself.
