Strange Characters

The problem with "strange characters" mentioned here:

http://www.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/kb/fog0000000070.html

tsn't because Word has a problem. It's because of CityDesk and Unicode.

Change the <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=unicode"> tag and you're good to go.

how widely supported is that in browsers?

should we make it the default in CityDesk?

thanks!

How supported is what?

Should you make what the standard?

I get my curly quotes without defining any character set on IE . . . and without resorting to codes.

I think there must be others who know more about this, though.

Sorry - I meant delete the: <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=unicode"> tag and it works.

CityDesk seems to have this as a default somewhere I guess . . . somehow it crept into my pages, probably from the CD default templates.

Joel, yeah, this one is pretty much the standard:

<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

Nice work Ryan!

I use "charset=utf8" rather than Unicode, and I haven't had anybody complain that they can't browse my site yet...
