inserting images into the header

Hi,
i'm loving City Desk so far and am getting used to things but  I haven't been able to figure out how to add a graphic or banner image  to the the header  except to do it manually for each page  in an HTML editor. This kind of defeats the purpose of having a CMS in the first place. Is there an easier way to place images in the header like you can with articles and sidebars and have them turn up on every subsequent page automatically?
Thanks

Are you putting your header markup in a template?

I'm not sure what you mean by header.  Is it the top section of your HTML page?  Are you using articles or imported HTML pages?

If so, try this out:
1) Make sure the HTML for the given article is in a template.
2) Decide which field will hold your image or other content you want to appear in the header; I'll use extra1 for this example.
3) Modify the template's HTML and put {$.extra1$} (or whatever fieldname you chose) in the header section of your HTML.
4) Create a new article that uses the template in step 1.
5) Insert your image and/or other content into the extra 1 field.
6) Preview
