How do you arrive at that conclusion when Joel explicitly states in the article that spending three days working on alpha-blended icons for CityDesk is at the expense of working on making it publish big sites faster?

Wasn't this alpha-blendedness of icons meant as a joke? Well, I guess it's all a matter of exegesis, or reading the signs, or consulting the tribe elderly...  It's what you get when communication stops.
