Making a CityDesk-based site available via WAP

Anyone have any experience with making a site created and managed in CityDesk available to phone users via WAP? I'd like to make my Web site available to WAP/WML users and would like to know what I need to do and where the gotchas are. Anyone done this?

Thanks.
David.

We are making i-mode sites. I-mode is similar to WAP (subset or superset or so). Works fine, especially since the little mobiles screens don't allow much

You can preview the site on www.talktomeNL.nl (dutch site, but there will be an international version soon; NL=Netherlands), choose i-mode, then click on the link simulator, and fill in "http://www.ttmNL.nl/sim" in the box under "Test hier je i-mode pagina" (test your i-mode page).

Or, if you have an i-mode cell phone you can see the site directly om http://www.ttmNL.nl.

We are publishing cultural routes (architecture, heritage, history etc.). At the moment only the i-mode versions are gerated from CD, but when we have made the templates, we'll also generate the internet versions from CD.

sorry, I forgot this: the little screens don't need much designing, so the CityDesk templates are not complicated.

be sure to use structural markup -- just <hx>, <p>, <ol>, etc. tags.  Don't try to format your pages with tables -- with such a little screen, it will not work well.

Ruud, how does the WAP browser know to go to load http://www.ttmnl.nl/sim? I don't see any meta tags or link tags that explain this. Or is there some separate but equivalent page to index.html that a WAP browser loads?

Thanks.

Loading http://www.ttmnl.nl/sim? It doesn't! The domain name ttmNL.nl is an alias we use to prevent mental health problems for the visitors to the i-mode site if they have to type the longer name talktomeNL.nl on the small keys, each time pressing a key 2, 3 or even 4 times to get the right character. (say, they have to press an average of 2 times, then for http://www.talktomeNL.nl they will press the phone keys 48 times, which is dangerous).

So visitors entering ttmNL.nl end up at talktomeNL.nl. There, an ASP file reads the domain name with which they arrived and simply routes the visitor to the internet version or the i-mode version.
