including articles on index page; templates

On my index page, I'm trying to loop through all the articles in a folder and display the article using the template it is assigned to.  The articles use different templates.

I thought the solution was to use  {$ include $} but i cannot get around the directive wanting a string file name.  I've tried using the filename variable but that doesn't work.

Any ideas on how to include the articles on a page, merged with their templates?

Hmm. You could do it with a PHP (or your scripting langauge here) or Server Side Include if your server supports it.

I don't see how that would work.  I need to have my users change the site without me fooling with the code.

I'm a noob with CityDesk right now.  The example that comes with it nicely formats the articles if you reach them by clicking on a link.  I want my articles to be pieces of a page, where the article and the format come together on the page without clicking a link to go to the article.

Maybe that explains what I'm trying to do better than i said it above.
