More on character set problem

I'm managing a PHP project in CD2. We were having problems displaying accented characters out of a mySQL database, based on:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

We solved the problem by:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

Our server is set for Content-Type: text/html.

However, accented characters in the text of the article now get mangled. If I go into the HTML page and enter the number code (&#246;) and publish, the character dispalys properly. If I switch to Normal view, the number code is replaced with the accented character in HTML view, and then gets mangled during publishing.

The mangle is not a browser issue. The mangle is in the source of the page.

I have read  http://discuss.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=10165&ixReplies=9

Is this a bug in CD?

CityDesk writes out everything in UTF-8.  This isn't something you can change by changing your HTML tags to iso.

You have two options:
1. Leave the UTF-8 headers as they are, and let CityDesk write out the UTF-8

2. Never edit your articles in normal view.

Thanks. Now I know what parameters I'm dealing with.
