License: What's a file?

I just got done messing with the demo and I think I want to buy. What I'm not sure is which version I need to buy. I have no interest in collaboration, so the only relevant difference is the specified "500 files" limit on the home version.

The problem is that it's not clear what a "file" is.

Is each database entry a "file"?

Is each database in whole a "file"?

Or is it a count of the number of files created for me on my server after upload?

(By the way,  "variables" are really macros! That's a very powerful feature, when you realize that they can be fifty+ lines long and can include others. I've got my site-wide side bar in one, including all the formatting for it.)

I suppose I should have dug through the previous posting history. (I tried looking at the subjects, but none of them were obviously helpful.)

If I understand properly, then 500 files means 500 files created on the server.

Does that include citydesk.xml?

Each item (except folders) in the main view counts as a file.

(So, no, citydesk.xml doesn't count.  Its just there to help speed up publishing...)
