CityDesk for the home user

CityDesk looks like it’s a great product. It’s too bad there’s not a lower priced home edition available. $300 is far too much for the casual user.

Have you downloaded the free version?  It lets you publish a site up to 50 pages.  More than enough I would think for most home users....

It's 50 files which includes images. I think that would be enough for a great many sites. A family that wants to publish a years worth of baby pictures might run into the limit.

In principle, I regret this state of affairs as well. CD is relatively intuitive as CMS systems go.

From what I heard through the Foghorn, though, the end-user edition which existed for CD1 was not generating enough revenue to continue down that path.

I would venture that it makes sense for Fog Creek to try and make money selling the professional version only, instead of losing capital on a home edition and eventually going bankrupt.
